Common Problems and Solutions

If you are experiencing problems with your system, there are a number of ways to resolve the problem:

1.

Check the troubleshooting guide below.

Check for more advice from the DELL website

3.

If your PC is functional, run the hardware diagnostics.

PCI Card Installation

Problem

Cause

Solution

The computer will not boot.

PCI card is not inserted properly.

Remove and re-insert the PCI card into the motherboard.

 

The 1394 device is defective

Disconnect the 1394 (DV) cable and reboot. If this fixes the problem, your 1394 device (camera or VCR) may be defective.

The PCI slot on the computer motherboard PCI BUS is defective.

Insert the PCI card into another PCI slot on the computer. (NOTE: This will cause the driver to re-install.)

 

Hardware Detection

Problem

Cause

Solution

Hardware not detected by Windows operating system.

PCI card is not inserted properly.

Remove and re-insert the PCI card into the motherboard.

The PCI slot on the computer motherboard PCI BUS is defective.

Insert the PCI card into another PCI slot on the computer.

The PCI card may be bad.

Run the Diagnostics program to help determine the cause.

Plug-and-Play is not enabled in the computer's BIOS.

Other card/driver added is conflicting with Atlantis.

Drivers are not installed or are damaged.

Driver not properly loaded. Run SETUP.EXE from the installation CD ROM.

 

Video Source

Problem

Cause

Solution

Video source not detected.

Cables are damaged or connected incorrectly.

Verify that the cables are correctly installed and in good condition. Check that the 1394 cable from the Breakout Box is connected to the PCI card.

The video format is not set correctly.

Check that correct video source is selected in the software application. (DV or Composite or S-Video). Close the application and reboot the PC.

The PCI card may be bad.

Remove and re-insert the PCI card into the motherboard. If the problem remains, run the diagnostics.

Plug-and-Play is not enabled in the computer's BIOS.

Other card/driver added is conflicting with Atlantis.

 

Device Not Found

Problem

Cause

Solution

1394 device not found.

1394 device is not powered on or is in sleep mode.

Make sure that device is powered on and not in sleep mode.

Bad cable or cable not connected.

Verify that the cables are correctly installed. Check that the 1394 cable from the Breakout Box is connected to the PCI card.

1394 device is in conflict with another 1394 device.

If there is more than one 1394 device in the PC, remove the other devices and retry.

 

...Audio & Video

Problem

Cause

Solution

No video in PC window.

Inlay or video source may be incorrectly set.

Choose the proper video source: DV, S-video or Composite. Make sure that the video source is powered and connected to the Breakout Box.

Poor performance (video jerky, audio noisy, etc.).

System may not be optimized for performance.

Verify that your hard disk is 7200 RPM or greater. This can not be done through software.Be sure that DMA is enabled for the hard disk. Right click on My Computer and select Properties. Left-click on Hardware. Left-click on Device Manager. Double left-click on IDE Controllers and then double left-click on either the Primary or Secondary Channel. Left-click on Advanced Settings and verify that DMA is the Current Transfer Mode..
If you have multiple programs open, close those applications that are not critical to editing.

The video format (NTSC or PAL) may not be set correctly.

Connect correct video signal to Breakout Box input and restart the application.

No video output.

Cables not installed correctly, display device not powered.
Video is MacroVision protected.

Check the video cables connected to the Breakout Box outputs (DV camera, monitor, TV, VCR, etc.).Verify that the device connected to the Breakout Box outputs is on and operational. Try plugging a different video source into this device using the same cables. This will verify that the device is operational.

No video capture.

Application software may have stopped.

Verify that video is present in the overlay window on the PC's monitor. If video is present on the PC's display, then restart the PC and then the software application.

Cables or video source may be non-functional.

If no video is present on the PC's display, check that the cables are OK and the video source is on and operational.

Hard disk is full.

Make room on your hard drive (delete some files) or use a different hard drive.

No audio capture.

Application software may have stopped.

Verify that video is present in the overlay window on the PC's monitor. If video is present on the PC's display, then restart the PC and then the software application

Speakers are not connected.

Verify that speakers are connected to the Breakout Box and to the sound card in the PC.

Audio MUTE is on.

Check that Mute is disabled and Volume is up.

Hard disk is full.

Make room on your hard drive (delete some files) or use a different hard drive
