Dell performs the installation and setup on any CD-ROM drive that is shipped
as part of a system, including loading the appropriate device drivers when
the operating system is installed. The drive is ready for use when you
receive your system. No further installation or configuration is necessary.

Installing the CD-R/RW drive
Remove the CD-R/RW
reader from its packaging.
Turn off the power to the computer and unplug the power cord.
Remove the cover, face plate and clips or brackets used to secure internal
devices.
Please check the manual of your computer or contact Dell customer service
when you mount the CD-R/RW reader to your computer.
If you are upgrading from another CD-R/RW
drive, determine whether your old
reader has an IDE interface, then disconnect and remove the old reader from
the bay.
Verify Jumpers are set to CSEL (Cable Select) as shown in the Jumper
Settings section of this users guide. Locate the secondary IDE connector.
Connect to your existing secondary IDE connector.
Connect the audio cable between the
CD-R/RW drive and the sound card (if
necessary).
Connect the power cable.
Close system case by re-installing the cover and face plate (which were
removed in step 3).
Install the software package that came with the
CD-R/RW drive. For any
additional questions, please consult the installation instructions provided
with the software package.
Device Drivers
When using Windows 98, Windows NT Workstation Ver.4.0, Windows 2000, Windows Me, or Windows XP, no special device driver is required.
