Introduction

Setting up your TrueMobile 1150 Series wireless network requires completing the following steps:

Installing the Client Manager Software

The TrueMobile 1150 Series Client Manager is a software utility that you can use to:

  • Check the quality of your wireless connection
  • View/change the settings of your network connection
  • Monitor your network connection

On all computers that are not new Dell computers, you must install the Client Manager utility from the Dell TrueMobile 1150 Series Wireless LAN CD. New Dell computers that were ordered with TrueMobile 1150 Series already have Client Manager installed. Do the following: 

Insert the TrueMobile 1150 Series Wireless LAN CD into the CD drive of your computer. If the Main Menu screen shown in the following figure does not appear automatically, select Start->Run and then type X:\setup.exe (where X:\ is your CD drive letter), and then click OK.

  1. Click Install Software.
  2. On the Software Menu screen, click Install Client Manager and follow the instructions to complete the installation.
  3. The TrueMobile Client Manager icon will now appear on the screen. Double-click the icon to start the Client Manager. You can also start Client Manager by clicking Start->Programs->Dell TrueMobile 1150->Client Manager

 NOTE: Dell recommends that you configure the Client Manager to start whenever Microsoft® Windows® starts.  


Installing the PC Card Expansion Slot in an Existing Desktop Computer

 NOTE: If this is a new Dell computer, the PC Card expansion slot should be already installed. 

  1. Disconnect all cables from the computer and electrical outlets, and remove the computer cover according to the users documentation that came with your computer.
  2. Install the PC Card expansion slot in an empty expansion slot according with the documentation that came with the computer.
  3. After the card is installed, replace the cover, reconnect the cables, and then turn on the computer. For driver installation instructions, following the instructions below for your operating system: 
    1. For Windows 98 Click here.
    2. For Windows Millennium (Me) Edition Click here.
    3. For Windows 2000 Click here.
    4. For Windows XP Click here.

 

PC Card Expansion Slot Driver Installation for Windows 98

  1. Windows 98 will detect the PC Card expansion slot. On the Add New Hardware Wizard screen, click Next.

  2. Click Next.

  3. Click Next.

NOTE: During the installation, you may be prompted with dialog boxes asking you to enter a path to additional required files. If the required Windows files are installed on your computer, they may be located in the folder C:\Windows\Options\Cabs. Type C:\Windows\Options\Cabs. Click OK to copy the required files. If Windows again prompts you for the operating system CD, insert the operating system CD that came with your computer into your CD drive. Type X:\win98 in the entry field where X is the letter of your CD drive. Click OK to copy the required files.

 

  1. Click Next.

  2. Click Finish.

  3. When Windows prompts you to restart the computer, click Finish to complete the installation. If you are not prompted to restart, you must do it manually. Click Start—>Shutdown, select Restart, then click OK

PC Card Expansion Slot Driver Installation for Windows Me

  1. Windows Me will detect the PC Card expansion slot. Click Next.

  2. Click Finish.

  3. When Windows prompts you to restart the computer, click Yes to complete the installation. If you are not prompted to restart, you must do it manually. Click Start—>Shutdown, select Restart, then click OK

 

PC Card Expansion Slot Driver Installation for Windows 2000

  1. Windows 2000 will detect the PC Card and install the drivers automatically. You will not be prompted with any screens, and you do not need to restart the computer. 

 

PC Card Expansion Slot Driver Installation for Windows XP 

  1. Windows XP will detect the card and install the drivers automatically. You will not be prompted with any screens and you do not need to Restart the computer. 


Installing Your TrueMobile 1150 Series PC Card 

 Follow the steps below to install the TrueMobile 1150 Series PC Card into your portable and desktop computers.

  1. Turn on your computer.
  2. Insert the TrueMobile 1150 Series PC Card into your desktop or portable computer as shown in the following figures:

  3. Complete the installation depending on the operating system that is running on your computer.
    1. For Windows 98 Click here.
    2. For Windows Me Click here.
    3. For Windows 2000 Click here
    4. For Windows XP Click here

     

Windows 98 PC Card Installation

  1. Windows 98 will automatically detect the TrueMobile PC Card, open the New Hardware Found window, and start collecting information for a driver information database. If you purchased your computer with a TrueMobile 1150 Series PC Card, the drivers will load automatically and you will be asked to restart your computer (go to step 7). If this is not the case, go to step 2.
  2. The Add New Hardware Wizard screen appears. Insert the Dell TrueMobile 1150 Series CD, wait 10 seconds, and then click Next.

  3. At the next screen, select Search for the best driver for your device (Recommended), and click Next.

  4. At the next screen, click to uncheck Floppy disk drives and click to select CD-ROM drive. (X:\ is the usual drive letter for your CD-ROM drive. Your drive letter may be different from this example, however.) Click Next.

  5. When Windows has found the driver, click Next.

NOTE: During the installation, you may be prompted with dialog boxes asking you to enter a path to additional required files.   1. Click Finish

  2. Click Yes to restart your computer and complete the setup. 

 The driver installation is complete. To confirm the installation was successful:

  1. Click Start—>Settings—>Control Panel.
  2. Double-click the System icon
  3. Click the Device Manager tab
  4. Click Network Adapters

    TrueMobile 1150 PC Card should appear on the list. If a red x or yellow exclamation point appears next to the network adapter icon in the Control Panel, see the Troubleshooting section. If no red x or yellow exclamation point appears, the installation was successful.

 

 Windows Me PC Card Installation

  1. If purchased a computer with a TrueMobile 1150 Series PC Card, the drivers will load automatically and you will be asked to restart your computer (go to step 7). If this is not the case, got to step 2.
  2. After you insert the TrueMobile 1150 Series PC Card, the Add New Hardware Wizard appears. Insert the Dell TrueMobile 1150 Series Wireless LAN CD, wait 10 seconds, and click Next.

  2. When prompted, click Yes to restart your computer. 

    The driver installation is complete. To confirm that the installation was successful:

    1. Click Start —>Settings->Control Panel.
    2. Click view all control panel options.
    3. Double-click the System icon.
    4. Click the Device Manager tab.
    5. Click Network Adapters

      TrueMobile 1150 PC Card should appear on the list. If a red x or yellow exclamation point appears next to the network adapter icon in the Control Panel, see the Troubleshooting section. If no red x or yellow exclamation point appears, the installation was successful.

Windows 2000 PC Card Installation

If purchased your computer with a TrueMobile 1150 Series PC Card, the drivers will load automatically and the setup will be complete. If this is not the case, perform the following steps to install the PC Card drives:

  1. After you insert the TrueMobile 1150 Series PC Card, the Found New Hardware Wizard screen appears. Insert the Dell TrueMobile 1150 Series Wireless LAN CD, wait 10 seconds, and click Next.

     

  2. Select Search for a suitable driver for my device (recommended) and click Next.


  3. Select CD-ROM drives and click Next.


  4. When Windows has found the driver on your CD drive, click Next.


  5. Click Finish to complete the installation. You do not need to restart your computer.

     

 The driver installation is complete. To confirm that the installation was successful:

  1. Click Start—>Settings—>Control Panel.
  2. Double-click the System icon.
  3. Click the Hardware tab.
  4. Click the Device Manager button.
  5. Click Network Adapters.

    TrueMobile 1150 PC Card should appear on the list. If a red x or yellow exclamation point appears next to the network adapter icon in the Control Panel, see the Troubleshooting section. If no red x or yellow exclamation point appears  the installation was successful. 

Windows XP PC Card Installation

After you insert the TrueMobile 1150 Series PC Card, Windows XP will detect the card and install the drivers automatically. You will not be prompted with any screens and, you do not need to restart the computer.

To confirm that the installation was successful:

  1. Click the Start button, point to Control Panel and double-click the System icon. (If you could not find System icon, click on Switch to Classic View icon then click on System icon.)
  2. Click the Hardware tab.
  3. Click the Device Manager button.
  4. Click Network Adapters. The TrueMobile 1150 Series Wireless LAN Card should appear on the list. If a red x or yellow exclamation point appears next to the network adapter icon in the Control Panel, see the Troubleshooting section. If no red x or yellow exclamation point appears  the installation was successful.
