If you have the Residential Gateway, access point, or wireless
base station, refer to the documentation that came with the
networking device to complete the setup. If you do not have any of
these wireless networking devices, go to the section on Completing
the Setup with the Peer-to-Peer Network.
Setting up a Configuration Profile
Before you begin be sure to have the ID from the back of your the
Residential Gateway, access point, or wireless base station.
For Windows 98, Windows Me and Windows 2000

Setting up a Configuration Profile on
Windows 98, Windows Me and Windows 2000
Perform the following steps on every computer that you want on
your wireless network:
Make sure your TrueMobile 1150 SeriesPC Card
is installed.
Click Start->Programs->Dell TrueMobile
1150->Client Manager. You can also double-click the
Client Manager icon in the system tray.
Click Actions then Add/Edit Configuration
Profile
On the Add/Edit Configuration Profile screen select the
first profile and name it (you can also leave it as
Default). If you are using a Dell TrueMobile 1150 Series
RG1000, select Residential Gateway. For all other access
point, base station, and residential gateways devices proceed to
Step 8.
Click Edit Profile and the Edit Configuration
[Default] screen appears.
Enter the ID from the back of your the Residential Gateway,
access point, or wireless base station as the Network Name.
The Encryption Key will be entered automatically. Do not
change the Encryption Key to another value. (The screen
below is an example and your Network Name and Encryption
Key will be different.
Click OK three times to complete. Skip the next three
steps.
For all devices other than a Dell TrueMobile 1150 Series
RG1000, select Access Point.
Click on Edit Profile and when the Edit
Configuration screen appears, enter the Network Name
(on the Basic tab) and the
Encryption Key(s) (on the Encryption tab).
Click OK three times to complete the configuration
profile.
Setting up a Configuration Profile on Windows
XP
On Windows XP, the
configuration profile will not be set up through Client Manager. Instead
it should be done through the operating system. Perform the following
steps on every computer you want on your Wireless Network:
Make sure that your TrueMobile 1150 Series PC Card is
installed.
Click Start->Control Panel. (If Control
Panel is not listed, click Settings->Control
Panel).
Click Network and Internet Connections (if not
found, click the Switch to Category View icon and then click the Network and Internet Connections icon.
Click Network Connections.
Right-click the Wireless Network Connection icon and
select Properties.
Click the Wireless Networks tab.
Enable the option Use Windows to configure my wireless
network settings.
Click the Add button. Enter your Network name
(SSID) and Network key. Refer to the documentation that
came with your access point, residential gateway, or base station
for these values.
If you have a Dell TrueMobile 1150 Series
RG1000, do the following:
Enter the Network Name from the back of the RG1000 label in
the Network name (SSID) field.
Check the box next to Data encryption (WEP
enabled).
Uncheck the box next to Network Authentication (Shared
mode).
Uncheck the box next to The key is provided to me
automatically.
Select ASCII characters for the Key format and 40
bits (5 characters) for the Key length.
Enter the last 5 characters of the Network Name from the
back of the RG1000 label in the Network key field.
Click OK twice to complete the setup.
NOTE: For more information on how to set up the configuration profile and 802.1x
authentication, please click Start then Help and Support, perform a search on
"wireless networks" or "802.1x". In the Pick a task list, select the topics. Follow the
setup instructions that appear.
Internet Browser Setup
To complete your wireless network setup you need to
configure the Internet browser on every computer to access the
Internet through a LAN connection.
Open Internet Explorer. Click on pull down menu Tool
and select Internet Options.
Click on the Connections tab on top of the Window.
Click Setup.
Click Next.
Click the Connect to the Internet button. Click
Next.
Click the Set up my connection manually button.
Click Next.
Click Connect using a broadband connection that is always
on. Click Next.
Click Finish.
Internet Explorer version 5.0:
Right-click the Internet Explorer icon on the
desktop.
Select Properties.
Click the Connections tab in the Internet Explorer
Properties screen.
Click Setup.
Click to select the I want to set up my Internet Connection
manually button. Click Next.
Click the I connect through a local area network (LAN)
button.
Click Next.
If your ISP specifies a proxy server that you need to enter,
follow your ISP instructions. Otherwise, click Next to
continue.
Click the No button when asked if you want to set up an
Internet mail account.
Click Next.
Check the box To connect to the Internet
immediately .
Click Finish.
Internet Explorer version 4.0:
Right-click the Internet Explorer iconon the
desktop.
Select Properties.
Click the Connection tab in the Internet Explorer
Properties screen.
Click Connect
Click Next.
Click the I want to set up a new
connection button. Click Next.
Click the Connect using my local area network (LAN).
Click Next.
If your ISP specifies a proxy server that you need to
configure, click "Yes". Otherwise, go to the next step.
Click Next and follow the instructions from your ISP to
configure the proxy server.
If you do not get instructions from your ISP to specify a
proxy server, click No. Click Next to continue.
Click No when asked if you want to set up an Internet
mail account.
Click Next.
Click No when asked if you want to set up an Internet
news account.
Click Next.
Click No when asked if you want to set up an Internet
directory service account.
Click Next.
Click Finish.
Netscape Communicator 4.x
If Netscape Communicator has previously been configured for
Internet access, it will usually be able to detect the new proxy
settings. If you are unable to browse the Internet with the new
shared configuration, you will need to set the Netscape Communicator
to automatically detect proxy settings.
Open the Netscape Communicator, click Edit, and then
Preferences.
Click the + sign next to Advanced,
then select Proxies.
Select Automatic proxy configuration, then click
OK.
If Netscape Communicator has not previously been used on
the client, it will ask a series of questions to create a new profile
when first started.
Open Communicator, then click Next in the Creating a
New Profile dialog.
Enter your full name and email address in the appropriate
fields, then click Next.
Enter your profile name (this may be any name you wish), and
specify the path to user settings (you may accept the default
path), then click Next.
If you know the SMTP server name, POP/IMAP server name, mail
server user name, and news server name you may complete these
fields in the following screens. Otherwise, click
Finish.
You may configure the Netscape Communicator for email at a
later time.
In many cases, Communicator will be able to detect the
proxy settings for your shared Internet connection. If Communicator
is unable to browse the Internet, you will need to configure it to
automatically detect proxy settings.
Communicator will open automatically after you have created a
profile. Click Edit, and then Preferences.
Click the + sign next to
Advanced, then select Proxies.
Select Automatic proxy configuration, then click
OK.
Netscape Communicator 3.x
In many cases, Netscape Navigator will be able to detect
the proxy settings for your shared Internet connection, even if it
has previously been used on the client. If Navigator is unable to
browse the Internet with the new shared configuration, you will need
to set it to automatically detect proxy settings.
Click Options
Click Network Preferences.
Select the Proxies tab.
Select Automatic Proxy Configuration, then click
OK.
