Cabling: Cisco 605D Personal PCI ADSL Adapter Card

Cabling: Cisco 605D Personal PCI ADSL Adapter Card

Introduction | Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS) Splitter Configuration | EZ-DSL Splitterless Configuration

Introduction

Before you connect cables to the Cisco 605D adapter card, you must first identify the ADSL configuration to which you are connecting.

WARNING: Do not plug the telephone cord into the connector labeled "PHONE" on the back of the adapter card if you are using a POTS splitter to run a dedicated line to the Cisco 605D adapter card. Contact the service provider for information on your configuration.

Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS) Splitter Configuration

A POTS splitter separates data signals from voice signals on the telephone line. The POTS splitter works by running a separate line from the voice line, so that the Cisco 605D adapter card has a dedicated cable for data transmissions.

Perform the following procedure to connect cables to the Cisco 605D adapter card in a POTS splitter configuration:

  1. Plug the ADSL cable into the connector labeled "WALL" on the Cisco 605D adapter card.
  2. Turn on the computer and be sure that the Cisco 605D adapter card's LEDs are flashing.
WARNING: Do not plug the telephone cord into the PHONE connector on the back of the adapter card if you are using a POTS splitter to run a dedicated line to the Cisco 605D adapter card. Contact the service provider for information on your configuration.

EZ-DSL Splitterless Configuration

When you use the EZ-DSL splitterless configuration, your telephone equipment is not connected to a POTS splitter. Without a POTS splitter, noise from telephone equipment can interfere with the Cisco 605D adapter card's operation. The Cisco 605D adapter card can also cause noise on the telephone line. To prevent line noise, you must attach microfilters to the telephone lines.

  1. Plug the ADSL cable into the WALL connector on the Cisco 605D adapter card.
WARNING: Do not connect a telephone to the PHONE connector if you have a POTS splitter installed. Contact your telephone company to verify your configuration.
  1. Plug a telephone into the Cisco 605D adapter card PHONE connector, if desired. The PHONE connector port has a built-in microfilter.
  2. Install microfilters to each telephone on the ADSL line.
  3. Turn on the computer and check that the Cisco 605D adapter card's LEDs are flashing.
