Installing the Modem
Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows 2000 Users
- From the Windows desktop, double-click My Computer.
- Double-click Control Panel.
- In the Control panel, double-click the Modem icon.
- De-select the "Don't detect my modem" option if it's selected (i.e. make sure there is not a check mark in the box next to the selection). Then click Next.
- Click Change.
- Click Have Disk.
- Insert the CD-ROM into your drive, type D:\ in the text box, and click OK. (If your CD-ROM drive uses a letter other than D, use that letter instead.)
- If the next window is titled "Install New Modem" proceed to step 9. If the next window is titled "Modem Properties" and a modem titled "U.S. Robotics 56K Voice PCI" is listed, then this modem is already installed. If the modem is not listed, click the Add button.
- When you see the "Install New Modem" screen, click 3Com as the manufacturer of your modem in the first column and then click "U.S. Robotics 56K Voice PCI" as the type of modem you have in the second column. Then click OK.
- Write the COM port setting. Click Next.
- Click Finish.
- Now you should verify that the modem installation was a success. When your desktop returns, click the Windows Start button and point to Settings. Then click Control Panel.
- Double-click the Modems icon.
- In the "Modems Properties" screen, you should see the modem "U.S. Robotics 56K Voice PCI" listed. This means the installation was a success. Click OK. If you do not see your modem listed, the installation was unsuccessful. Please refer to "Troubleshooting".
Windows Millennium Users
To upgrade your modem from the default Operating System drivers perform the following steps.
- From the Windows desktop, right-click My Computer and select Properties.
- Click the Device Manager tab.
- Expand the Modem device category and select U.S. Robotics 56K Voice PCI.
- Click Properties.
- Click the Driver tab.
- Click Update Driver.
- Click Specify location of the driver.
- Insert the CD-ROM into your drive, type D:\ in the text box, and click OK. (If your CD-ROM drive uses a letter other than D, use that letter instead.)
- Click Next.
- Click Finish when the modem drivers are installed.
- Now you should verify that the modem installation was a success. When your desktop returns, click the Windows Start button and point to Settings. Then click Control Panel.
- Double-click the Modems icon.
- In the "Modems Properties" screen, you should see your modem listed. This means the installation was a success. Click OK.
Windows NT 4.0 Users
- From the Windows desktop, double-click My Computer.
- Double-click Control Panel.
- Return to the Control Panel and double-click the Modems icon.
- Click Add.
- Click Next. Your computer will look for the modem.
- Once your computer finds the modem, you will see a screen showing that it has detected a "Standard Modem". Click Change.
- Click Have Disk.
- Insert the CD-ROM into your drive, type D:\ in the text box, and click OK. (If your CD-ROM drive uses a letter other than D, use that letter instead.)
- When you see the "Install New Modem" screen, click the manufacturer of your modem in the first column and then click type of modem you have in the second column. Then click OK.
- Write the COM port setting. Click Next.
- Click Finish.
- Now you should verify that the modem installation was a success. When your desktop returns, click the Windows Start button and point to Settings. Then click Control Panel.
- Double-click the Modems icon.
- In the "Modems Properties" screen, you should see your modem listed. This means the installation was a success. Click OK.
Installing Communications Software
- Insert the CD-ROM into your CD drive
- Click on "My Computer" and double click the D drive (If your CD-ROM drive uses a letter other than D, use that letter instead.)
- Double click the "setup.exe" file. The software installation wizard will guide you through the rest of the installation.
Connecting the telephone line
- Look at back of computer and locate the modem. You will see two female phone connectors (jacks) next to each other for reference.
- Find the green color-coded "Line" text next to one of the two connectors.
- Plug the green color-coded end of the phone cord into that connector.
- Plug the other end of the phone cord into the wall telephone jack.
