If your Mini PCI Card seems to be working fine, but you are not able to connect to
the network, this error might be due to a configuration mismatch. The problem might be
caused by a configuration mismatch of:
Network Name
Encryption Key
The TrueMobile 1150 Network Name and Encryption Keys are case-sensitive. Be
sure that these values are exactly the same on all computers.

Computers seem to be communicating, but don't appear in the My Computer
window or in the Network Neighborhood window
Check that File and Printer Sharing is enabled on all the computers on
your network. On each computer's Start menu, select Settings and click Control Panel. In
the Control Panel window, double-click the Network icon. In the Network window, click the
Configuration tab. You should see File and Printer Sharing at the bottom of the window. If
File and Printer Sharing is not there, click Add, click Service, select Microsoft, and
double-click File and printer sharing for Microsoft Networks. Next, click the File and
Print Sharing button in the Network window. Select both check boxes in the File and Print
Sharing window and click OK. File and Printer Sharing should appear in the Configuration
window list.
Check that the NetBEUI protocol is installed and
set up correctly on all the computers on your network. On each computer's
Start menu, select Settings and click Control Panel. In the Control Panel
window, double-click the Network icon. In the Network window, click the
Configuration tab. You should see the NetBEUI protocol. If the NetBEUI
protocol is not there, click Add, click Protocol, select Microsoft, and
double-click NetBEUI. NetBEUI should appear in the Configuration
window.
Data transfer is sometimes very slow
Microwave ovens and some cordless
phones operate at the same radio frequency as the Dell TrueMobile 1150 Series Mini PCI Cards. When the microwave or
cordless phone is in use, it interferes with the Wireless Network. Keep computers with
TrueMobile 1150 Series Mini PCI Cards at least 20 feet away from your microwave oven and
any cordless telephone that operates at a frequency of 2.4 GHz.
Data transfer is always very slow
Some homes and most offices are built with steel. The steel in your
building may be interfering with your network's radio signals. Try moving your computers
to different locations to improve performance.
Computers won't communicate with the network
If your network has an AP1100, check all cables and make sure the power
LED on the front of the AP1100 is green.
In Microsoft® Windows® 2000, I get the error
message Medium cable disconnected, and there is a red X on my network icon in
the system tray.
Note: For Windows 2000 only
Make sure that your computer is receiving a good
signal from the access point (Using your Client Manager).
If you are receiving a good signal from the access point, and you are
still experiencing the problem, verify that you have installed the necessary additional
software for Windows 2000. In Windows 2000,
your Mini PCI Card will not work without this additional software. Go to Installing
the Software Necessary for Windows 2000 to learn how to install this software.
If you have already installed this software, try restarting your
computer to resolve the problem.
Network performance is really slow when the system
is docked to a docking station with an active Ethernet port.
Note: For Windows 2000 only
If you dock your system into a docking station with
an active Ethernet port while your Mini PCI Card is still active and connected to an
access point, you will experience this problem because Windows 2000 must now handle two
active network connections.
You need to either disconnect
the Ethernet cable from your docking station, or disable the radio on your Mini PCI
Card. To disable the radio on your Mini PCI
Card, right click on the Client Manager icon in the system tray. Select Disable Radio. (Follow the same steps to enable the Mini PCI Card).
Note: Your Mini PCI Card will not re-enable itself
automatically next time you turn on the computer. You
need to remember to enable the radio in order for the Mini PCI Card to function again.
My network connection works fine, but there is a
yellow bang warning on the system tray, and Client Manager reports that it is unable to
communicate with the AP.
Your Mini PCI Card is designed to work optimally
with either the Dell RG1000 residential gateway or the Dell AP1000 access point. If you are not using either of those two devices, you will see the warning in some versions of Client Manager.
This is only a warning, and it will not affect your network performance.
