Dell™ TrueMobile™ 1184 Wireless Broadband Router User's Guide

 

The Control Utility is a Windows-based software that monitors the status of the connection from your computer to the Wireless Broadband Router and to Internet. It can help you troubleshoot connection problems if Internet connectivity is broken.  For example, if your cable modem is down, you will immediately be able to eliminate the your PC from the troubleshooting equation.

Installing the Control Utility


You can install the control utility on your PC when you step through the setup process using the Setup Wizard.

  1. Insert the TrueMobile 1184 Wireless Broadband Router Setup Wizard and User Guide CD  into the CD drive.  Your CD should automatically launch the Setup Wizard program. If it does not, complete the following steps to start the Wizard.
     
    1. Go to Start > Run.
    2. Type x:\setup.exe (where "x" is the driver letter of your CD-ROM drive.)
       
  2. From the main menu, click Installation, and then click either Setup First Computer or Setup Additional Computers.
     
  3. Follow the instruction on the screen until you have successfully completed the installation process.

Using the Control Utility

 

The control utility program is by default set up to run automatically upon each system startup. If the utility does not start automatically, click Start > Programs > Dell TrueMobile 1184 Wireless Broadband Router > Dell Control Utility to invoke the utility program.

Once running, a router icon is created in the system tray. If you have a good connection to the Internet, the system tray icon looks like this , or
looks like this icon if the connection is not active.

 

You can use the control utility in different ways:

  • Mouse-over the system tray router icon for quick connection status information.
     
  • Right-click the router icon and select Exit from the menu to end the utility program.
     
  • Double-click the router icon to open the utility window.
     
    • View the connection status among your computer, the Wireless Broadband Router, and your ISP.
       
    • If you do not see any of the arrows in the figure below, there is a problem in the connection. If the first arrow (from the PC to the router) is not visible, then you cannot even connect to the router. If the first arrow is visible, but the 2nd one (from Router to ISP) is not visible, then the router is unable to connect to the internet. Please click on the “Troubleshooting Tips” as shown in the screen below to get more information on both scenarios.
       
    • View the current settings of the Wireless Broadband Router. Information such as Device Name, SSID, Channel, WEP encryption are shown.
       
    • Click Troubleshooting Tips for information on how to fix the connection errors.
       
    • Click the Options button to display the Setting management window.

                                    


 

  • The Setting window provides a quick and easy way to change the Password, SSID, wireless Channel settings of the Wireless Broadband Router. Upon completion of the modification, click Save / Restart and enter the current password to accept the change and reboot the device.
     
    • Click the Save/Restart button to accept the update and reboot the device.
       
    • Click the Launch WEB Configuration button to bring up the web page of the Wireless Broadband Router for Basic and Advanced Settings configuration.

Uninstalling the Control Utility

 

  1. If the router icon is displayed in the system tray, right click the router icon and select Exit.
     
  2. Click Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Program.
     
  3. Select the ControlUtility from the program list and remove it as instructed.
